Read God's Word through in a Year:

Dual Readings in God's Word: Old
Testament
and Psalms--Genesis 16-17; Psalm

Genesis 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide
himself a
lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.
What words of faith! Abraham had been sent to offer his
own son of his old age, the son of promise, on an altar of
sacrifice.
Remember, the sin of the Amorites was not yet full (Genesis 15:16), yet
they offered their sons as sacrifices to their gods, even at this
time!
Some religions demand that devotees sacrifince their sons, even today,
but God had other plans, and Abraham sensed that God had some
plan.
Indeed, God sent an angel, a messenger, to stop the lifted knife over
Isaac!
God made it clear that this was NOT God's plan! He provided a
lamb
caught in a thicket, but a few thousand years later, 2000 years ago,
God
sent His OWN Son to die on the cross for all who would believe, "that
the
world through him might be saved" (John 3:17). Jesus said, "this
is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved
darkness
rather than light, because their deeds were evil" (John 3:19). In
the words of King David, "The sacrifices of God are a broken
spirit:
a broken and a contrite heart, heart, O God, thou wilt not despise."
(Psalm
51:17)
