Read God's Word through in a Year:
Single
Reading Daily--Genesis 24-25
Dual Readings in God's Word: Old
Testament
and Psalms--Genesis 18-19; Psalms
19-20
Genesis 24:40 And he said unto me, The LORD, before whom I
walk,
will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take
a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father's house:
Here we have a window into the faith of Abraham. He does
not want his promised son marrying into the child-sacrificing
Canaanites.
So he sends a servant to ask a bride from his and his wife's
people.
In terms of faith, there are three facts presented in this verse.
Abraham walks before the Lord, unashamed, openly, faithfully,
obediently,
constantly worshiping, and with complete confidence. God will
intervene
in this matter with an angel, a messenger. Note that this sort of
thing comes not from the determination of man, even Abraham, but from
man's
consultation with God! Notice that Abraham was in the habit of
seeking
God's will in worship! Abraham was confident that God would
"prosper
thy way" not because he commanded God, but because God had commanded
him!
When we want the blessings of God, it is our responsibility to do the
Lord's
bidding. But is that what we expect? Even Jesus, facing
death
on the cross for our sins, said, "Nevertheless, not my will, but thine,
be done."
