Read God's Word through in a Year:
Single
Reading Daily--Genesis 33-35
Dual Readings in God's Word: Old
Testament
and Psalms--Genesis 25-26; Psalms
28-30
Genesis 33:20 And he erected there an altar, and
called it
El-elohe-Israel.
These chapters catch us up on the life of Jacob (meaning
supplanter),
whose name has now been changed by God to Israel (meaning God prevails)
and we see now, as in his grandfather Abraham, a dedication to worship
of God. After spending much of his life as a "supplanter" living
and thriving on his wit, he is now maturing, having found the
importance
of God in his own life. Isn't it often that way? We spend
our
youth following our dreams, only to find that our place and peace and
purpose
can only be found within obedience to God! Isn't it so loving of
God not to abandon us, but to continually open up to us the opportunity
to accept His Son, Jesus Christ, the one who died on the cross for our
Salvation, as Savior. "For God so loved the world, that he gave
his
only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish,
but
have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
