Luke 20:38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living:  for all live unto him.
This life is just a fleeting moment in time.  God is, indeed, the God of the living.  He is the Creator and the giver of life.  It in in the hands of God that we find meaning and the resources for life.  It is through the death of Jesus for our sins on the cross 2000 years ago that we merit eternal life, not our own good.  We are told that in the eyes of God all of our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.  The Disciples, the learners, the Apostles, those sent out, questioned Jesus asking who can be saved.  Jesus replied that with God all things are possible.  He is the Giver of Life.  His desire is for all to spend eternity in heaven.  But Billy Graham has called this earth a dressing room for eternity.  Indeed, God has told us that there is no other way given among men for us to gain entrance into heaven, but through Jesus the Christ, the Annointed of God.  If we would prepare for that life which comes after our separation from this earth, then Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.  We must look to Him for eternal life, but it is eternal life that he came to give.  Jesus pointed out that many will choose the darkness, the unrighteousness, the disobedience of God, rather than choosing obedience to God and reverence toward Jesus and His great love for us.  The dead, those choosing disobedience and rejection of Jesus, do not have Jesus as Lord, and do not subject themselves to God.  The living are those who choose to be a part of the Kingdom of God and accept His lordship ruling in their lives.  The living have a God who will accept them unto eternal life and into heaven.
