Luke 24:38 And he said unto them, Why are ye
troubled? and
why do thoughts arise in your hearts?
These followers had seen Jesus on the cross. Perhaps they
had even been close enough to hear Him cry out, "Father, forgive them;
for they know not what they do." They may have even heard him cry
out the first verse of the prophetic Psalm 22, "My God, My God, why
hast
Thou forsaken me!" And they may have heard the words, "Father,
into
thy hands I commend my spirit," immediately before He died. But
they
did not understand this. Here was someone who looked like
Jesus.
But they knew He had died and was buried. It must have been a
spirit.
It couldn't be Jesus! Jesus knew the problem. He knew their
thoughts, just as God knows our every thought, both good and bad.
He said we would be held accountable for every thought, one day.
Today, His former followers were in total disarray--you know how it is
when everything you ever believed in falls apart. But they only
thought
all had fallen apart. Jesus was victorious over death and the
grave!
He was talking with them. He desired to eat with them. Try
going three days without eating! He showed them the nail holes in
his hands. He opened their minds to the Scriptures which told
about
Him. He told them that the Gospel, that repentance and remission
of sins were to be preached to all the world. The Gospel, the
Good
News, is for all the world, for each and every person who will accept
His
death on the cross for their sins, and commit their lives to Him.
Why are ye troubled? You have a risen Saviour, and He wants you
to
come to Him.
