John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall
give him
shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him
a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
A lady has lived a hard life. She is now trying to draw
water from a well. Jesus uses this opportunity to show her a
spiritual
lesson. The person who comes to Jesus and accepts Him as Saviour
will find salvation and a newness of life and a place in eternity with
Jesus. Just as water is necessary for our bodies, Jesus is
necessary
for our souls. Just as physical thirst is quenched by water, the
spiritual thirst in our soul is quenched by the presence of Jesus in
our
lives. The shame, guilt, and heartaches of life cause great
turmoil
in our lives. We just can't get away from them. We try to
ignore
them. We try to pretend they don't matter. But they are
still
there, causing grief inside of us. This was what happend to the
woman
at the well. Jesus knew that. She came to the well at the
hottest
time of the day, just to avoid the other women of the town. She
was
dying of spiritual thirst. She had trouble facing the world, her
life was such a wreck. She had little hope, until she met
Jesus.
It took a while, but she finally understood what Jesus was talking
about.
She was so excited that she didn't bother with the water. There
was
something much more exciting! She told everyone she could find
about
Jesus! He could quench that spiritual thirst which had become so
great in her life. Is there something missing in your life?
Let someone tell you about Jesus. The water He can give you
springs
up into everlasting life, a quality of life and a quantity of life that
is very desirable--for eternity.
